Description

SUMMARY, EXPLANATION AND LIMITATIONS:
The Paired Box (Pax) genes encode for a family of 9 well characterised transcription factors which are important in cell and organ maturation. Pax genes are regulated very exactly. In general they are active throughout the embryogenesis and are switched off afterwards. Only in very few matured tissues the expression remains on a low level. On the contrary a high expression of Pax genes and an associated increase in cell proliferation occurs in some matured pathological tissues.
Pax-2 (Paired Box Protein 2) is a nuclear transcription factor which is involved in the development of renal epithelia. Mazal et al. have shown that Pax-2 is a reliable marker for clear cell low grade renal cell carcinomas. That does not apply for high grade renal cell carcinomas. 88% of clear cell renal cell carcinomas express Pax-2, whereas Pax-2 expression is only seldom observed in papillary and chromophobe renal cell carcinomas and renal oncocytoma.

Polyclonal
Isotype: IgG
Immunogen: GST-Pax-2 fusion protein according to the amino acid residues 188-385 of murine Pax-2.
Staining pattern: Nuclear.
Positive control: Tissue sample from kidney or clear cell renal carcinoma.

APPLICATIONS:
This antibody is designed for the specific localization of human Pax-2 using IHC techniques in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
